Zion Lutheran Cemetery
A Place of Memory, History and Peace.
For more than 160 years, Zion Lutheran Cemetery has been a final resting place for generations of families from Glen Rock and the surrounding community.
Since 1863
A Resting Place on the Hill
Zion Lutheran Cemetery, also known as Chestnut Hill Cemetery, has been part of the story of Zion and the Glen Rock community since the Civil War era.
The cemetery was established on March 30, 1863, when Samuel Rennoll and his wife conveyed two acres of land to Glen Rock Lutheran Church for use as a graveyard.
As the community grew, so did the cemetery. In 1900, six additional acres were purchased from the estate of Daniel Bortner, expanding the cemetery to approximately eight acres.
Remembering Those Who Served
Veterans at Zion Cemetery
Among the generations remembered here are 189 veterans. Their graves represent men and women who served their country while also being part of families and communities here at home.
Their presence is an important part of the story preserved within Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
