Snack Boxes for Students & Military Personnel

Zion Lutheran Church - Kookies for Kids snack box campaign-2020Imagine that you're somewhere in the world serving in military service to our country or perhaps you're a college student living in a dorm away from home. You're wondering if anyone from home (besides your Mom, of course) thinks about you.  Then your mail arrives, and there's a package from Church -- full of snacks and well wishes. It can change your whole world.

Because we do remember our young people here at Zion, we get together each year in February to assemble snack boxes to let them know we care.

Who Receives a Snack Box?

The Christian Education Committee maintains a list of our young people in the military and college, and we try to keep it current.  We encourage you to help by letting us know of eligible individuals in the Zion family who should receive a package. We do an active update of our list in late January to be ready for our campaign.

Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Rock, PA - Kookies for Kids snack box campaign-2020Where do Snacks Come From

By the beginning of February each year, we are busy gathering snacks such as gum, granola bars, cookies (homemade and bought), and other nonperishable snacks. We are blessed to have a congregation that eagerly pitches in. We typically accept contributions to our snack collection until late in the month.

How Can You Help?

  • Please join us by donating snacks.  A bin for collection will be located in the upstairs Fellowship Hall during our campaign.
  • Cards will be available for your signature and words of encouragement once the individuals are identified.
  • Once all snacks have been gathered, we'd also welcome your help to pack the snack boxes and prepare for shipping.
  • We would also welcome any monetary contributions to help defray shipping costs. You may drop your contribution in the offering plate on Sunday (in a separate enveope labeled for "Cookies for Kids") or mail your contributions to Zion or drop off during Church Office hours.

This year, 2020, we will be collecting items for our snack boxes from February 2nd through February 23rd.  We'll get together for packing the boxes on Sunday February 23, 2020, in the Fellowship Hall during Social Time following the worship service.

Please join us in letting those folks know that they are in our thoughts and prayers.
